Review "The Lovely Bones" Movie

The Lovely Bones

The Lovely Bones is a film which has a story about the girl’s murdered. This film is directed by Peter Jackson, the screen play by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, and Peter Jackson. It is an adapted film from a novel which has a same name created by Alice Sebold.

This film tells us about the girl’s murdered. Her name is Susie Salmon (Saoirse Ronan). She is the first daughter in Salmon’s family. Her father’s name is Jack Salmon (Mark Wahlberg), her mother’s name is Abigail Salmon (Rachel Weisz), her sister’s name is Lindsey Salmon (Rose McIver), her brother’s name is Buckley Salmon (Christian Ashdale), and her grandmother’s name is Lynn (Susan Sarandon). She is died in 14 years old.

They lived in Norristown, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. They had a closest neighbor named George Harvey (Stanley Tucci). He was mid-40s who lived alone and he built the dollhouse for a living. This dollhouse is located in the underground den at the cornfield that Susie usually took this field for her shortcut to go to the school.

On December 6, 1973, as usual Susie took her shortcut from the school to go home. On her way, she met Harvey in that cornfield. He showed Susie the dollhouse and he asked Susie to enter the underground den. Susie felt awesome to see the dollhouse, so she entered to know more the detail of that dollhouse. When she wanted to go home, Harvey forbade her to go and Susie felt that something wrong was happen. Her felt proven to be, she would rape by Harvey. She had been against Harvey, but Harvey is stronger than her. He raped Susie and then he killed her. He dismembered her body and then he put it in a safe. Susie’s spirit fled toward her personal heaven, because she didn’t want to die, she didn’t want to leave her family, and she hasn’t feel the first kiss yet with the beloved boy, Ray Singh (Reece Ritchie), her first love.

The Salmon family worried about Susie, because she didn’t go home until night. They have called all of Susie’s friends, but nobody knew where Susie was. So, they called police office. They looked for Susie everywhere, but they didn’t find her. At the first, they refused to accept that Susie was died, because they didn’t find her corpse. It made Salmon family frustrated, even Abigail went from their house to her father’s old cabin in New Hampshire and then to California when she took a new job at a winery. She did that to forget Susie, but she couldn’t and she went back to her home.

Same as Salmon family, Susie’s spirit hasn’t accepted yet that she was died. She always watched all the things her family did. She also saw all the things Ray did, but she couldn’t do anything. She just could see them from the other world.

Jack, Lindsey, and the police felt suspicious to Harvey. They tried to solve this problem by each other’s way. One night, Jack followed Harvey to the cornfield, but in the cornfield there was Clarissa (Susie’s best friend) and Brian (her boyfriend). Jack wanted to catch Harvey, but unfortunately he was wrong. He caught Clarissa, so Bryan became angry and he hit Jack with the stick. The police came to the Harvey’s house to interrogation him, but they didn’t find any evidence. Different from the others way, Lindsey entered to Harvey’s house when he wasn’t in. She tried to find anything to proven that Harvey was her sister’s murderer. Finally she find Harvey’s book in his bedroom. There was Susie’s photo and Susie’s hair in that book. She got surprised and she brought the book. When she got the book, Harvey was coming, but luckily she could run fast.

Harvey went to the sink hole to throw a safe where Susie’s body in and where Ray Singh and Ruth Connors, Susie’s old classmate who had felt Susie’s spirit went after her murder, were standing. Susie still saw from her heaven, and then she came and entered to Ruth’s body to met Ray. Ray could see Susie with his sense. They told their feeling each other, and Susie asked Ray to kiss her.

One night, Harvey was died. He felt into a ravine, because an ice felt into his head and he lost his balance. After that, Susie went to the larger heaven and she left all the things in her past. She wished a long and happy life.

That is the film’s summary. In my view, it is very interesting to watch. In this story, there is a brutality, but in this film also tells a girl’s tale whose ends her life before she even has the first kiss. Although this film tells about murder, but the Director doesn’t make this movie into a terrible movie. On the contrary, this film has pretty effects, the camerawork is adorable, and we can enjoy watch this movie. Some scene, such as Susie’s rape, though it can be assumed. Then, Susie is murdered, it is off camera.

We can see that Susie is a victim of the most horrible crimes ever. She is raped, murdered, dismembered, and her body put into a safe and then it dumps into a sink hole. Whereas, Susie is an ordinary girl whose has an ordinary life too. She is smart, she is a cheerful girl, and she is kind, but she has to die early.

Harvey, Susie’s murderer, is a cruel person. He pretends to be a friendly neighbor, but in fact he is a murderer. He has raped and killed many girls before Susie. Most of his victims are children. The youngest victim is 6 years old. He may be got a little beat crazy, because his activity isn’t common.
